Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The Chief Justice of India (CJI) raised concerns over the delayed construction work in West Bengal, especially related to the installation of CCTV cameras, construction of toilets, and resting rooms in key locations. The state government, in a status report, informed the court that despite setbacks caused by recent floods and logistical delays, efforts are being made to complete the work by October 15, 2024. However, the official deadline remains October 31.
During the hearing, the CJI stressed the importance of these infrastructure improvements and asked for swift action. The state assured the court that they are working to overcome delays and meet the earlier timeline. Advocate Dwivedi, representing the state, explained that the delays were largely due to natural calamities like flooding that affected the logistics.
The CJI also expressed concerns about the presence of individuals facing allegations of misconduct in the institution. A request for their suspension or placement on leave was made, but the CJI emphasized that the decision rests solely with the state government.
The CJI has asked the state to ensure that construction and security measures, such as the installation of CCTV cameras, are completed promptly to avoid further complications.
